what I wore last week.

Happy February 1st! Normally January feels like a long dragging month, but I have to say, this year it flew by in a blink. We’ve been anxiously engaged in lots of house projects and business projects for the first few weeks of the year and that always seems to make the time fly.

Right now I’m sitting at the table in our breakfast nook watching a blizzard outside. My kids are behind me in the kitchen making hot cocoa, after spending the afternoon pulling each other on the sled behind the horse. I was feeling a little grumpy about the fact that the schools insisted on remote learning instead of just giving these kids a freaking snow day so they could have some well-deserved fun, but now that I see how much fun they had anyway and I’m no longer grumpy. But I still think it’s stupid to make them do remote school right now. Free the children! ;-)

Over the weekend I finished up the breakfast nook makeover I’ve been working for the last couple weeks, and I cannot wait to show you! I can’t believe how much you can transform the look of a room with a little bit of trim and paint. It’s mind-boggling. Come back tomorrow to see.

For the last couple weeks, while I’ve been working on the breakfast nook, Craig has been rebuilding, and reinforcing the floor beams where we are redoing our second set of stairs. Let me tell you, not an easy job. But he finally finished it up on Saturday afternoon, which means we can put a new subfloor down and then it’s time to rebuild the stairs! I am so excited to see that come together. Partly because we’re building out a new pantry and we’ll finally have a good space for food storage, and partly because we’ve had a giant hole in the middle of our house for the last few months, and I am thrilled to be finally closing it up.

On Saturday, I also got a chance to pop into my favorite antique and thrift shops and found so many great things. I swear I have a 6th sense around picking, I just know when I’m going to find something good, and Saturday I got super lucky. So many lovely pieces to add to my collection and keep making our house into a home. This is a really great time of year for thrift and antique shopping because so many people are cleaning out their spaces in the new year, and you can find some seriously treasures. If you’re not into heading out into the cold right now, and hunting , you can find really great vintage pieces on Etsy and Ebay. The key is to know how to search. Here are some of my favorite shops:

This seller on Ebay is great for vintage grain sacks. There are tons of great things you can do with an old grain sack in your home, everything from pillow covers, to table runners, to framing them.

This eBay seller carries a ton of great vintage Frenc bread boards (they’re huge and really pretty).

I love searching Ebay for vintage crocks, and ironstone.

If you are looking for amazing pillows with vintage carpet fabrics and hemps, I just discovered this Etsy shop and my mind is blow at the price points. They have thousands of pieces too, each one of a kind.

This Etsy shop has tons go great antique elm stools and risers for tables. I have a bunch of antique elm pieces in my home. The wood is such a beautiful color, has tons of character and is a good hard wood so it’s really kid friendly (read: indestructible.)

If you love vintage rugs, this Etsy shop has thousands and they’re having a huge end of season sale right now, so the price on these is really really great.

Okay now let’s get to what I wore last week. Each image is set up to easily pin so you can reference back to them anytime you want for ideas and/or inspiration. I hope this makes getting dressed easier for you so you can go out and live your best life.

You may notice that these Chelsea Boots, this long duster sweater and this cardigan were the MVPs last week. Already getting so much wear out of all of them. Great capsule pieces.
